| NAME OF RHYTHM: | Djole (Djoli, Yoli, Yole) |
| COUNTRY: | Sierra Leone |
| OTHER NAMES: | On the album "Les Tambours De Goree Senegal" |
| there's a track (#4) called "Assiko," which is | |
| consistent in its parts with all the versions of Djole | |
| that I have heard or been taught. (It matches up | |
| particularly well with what my Senegalese teacher | |
| has taught as Djole or Yole.) The liner notes call the Assiko a "typical drum of Goree" but the | |
| drum is not described, and none of the players | |
| listed plays one. Because the rhythm seems | |
| the same as Djole to me, my guess is that | |
| "Assiko" is another way of writing "sico," the | |
| instrument which other sources say is the original | |
| instrument for Djole. (Jim Banks) |
| REGIONAL/ETHNIC GROUPS: | Temne (Liner notes Wassolon) |
| Madeis ethnic group of Forecaria (Liner notes, | |
| Master of the Forest) |
